You must depart within 24 hours after your last final exam or class of the Spring 2024 semester or by Sunday, May 5 at 12:00 PM — whichever comes first.

  • Savannah Campus – If you are participating in or assisting with Commencement, you may stay in the Residence Halls until 12:00 PM on May 12, pending approval from the Main Housing Office.  You must contact our office by email at housing@georgiasouthern.edu.  You will receive an email once our office has verified your participation in Commencement.
  • Statesboro Campus – If you are participating in or assisting with Commencement, you may stay in the Residence Halls until 12:00 PM on May 9, pending approval from the Main Housing Office.  You must contact our office by email at housing@georgiasouthern.edu.  You will receive an email once our office has verified your participation in Commencement.
  • If you want to remain on campus during the Spring to Summer break, you must complete a Break Stay Application. More information can be found here.

Preparing to Check Out: All students must check out of their individual space if they are not participating in break stay. The following items must be completed before your departure. Be sure to remove all your personal belongings from the space.

  • Lock your windows, and insert your window stick if one is provided (first-floor residents).
  • Lower and close window blinds.
  • Remove all trash and perishable food items and take to the appropriate dumpster. If trash or perishable food is found in your room, you will be charged for its removal.
  • Remove all items and clean the refrigerator and freezer.
  • Empty and clean the green recycling bin (if applicable)
  • Set the room temperature to AUTO, COOL at 75 degrees. It is important to have the unit set to AUTO to allow for proper air circulation.
  • Check every drawer/closet and take home all belongings
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Close and lock the bedroom and main doors.
  • Submit a Work Order
  • Check out with an RA or complete an express envelope.

During the Check Out Process: You will have the opportunity to inspect your room with an RA or through an express checkout. During that time, University Housing staff members will inspect the status of your space and will note any damage or cleaning issues. A University Housing staff member will collect your key at check out. If you are unable to turn in your key at check out, you may be charged with a lock change.

  • Even if damages and cleaning concerns are documented at check-out, all rooms are assessed through a final walkthrough once the building is vacant.
  • The Resident Director of your building will assign charges based on the room condition and final walkthrough. They will consider any damages or concerns submitted at the beginning of the academic year. The charges will appear on your Wings account no later than May 12.
  • If you would like to appeal any charges placed on your account, email residentialeducation@georgiasouthern.edu. In that email, please include your name, Eagle ID, room assignment, the item(s) you are appealing, and your reason for appeal. You are able to appeal any charges until July 1.
