Conference Assistant Job Description – Summer 2016

The Conference Assistant position is a twelve-week position employed by Georgia Southern University Conference Services. The position is for the summer beginning on Monday May 16, 2016 and ending Friday August 5, 2016, or until the last camp/conference checks out. Conference Assistants live on campus, complete on-call duty rotation, and work up to 30 hours per week as part of a summer staff team.

Conference Assistants are the front-line customer service staff for Conference Services summer camp/conference operations. Supervised by the Conference Services Leadership Team, Conference Assistants are student employees responsible for camps/conferences/SOAR Housing, including any preparatory work for the host buildings, greeting customers, check-outs and customer service during the group’s stay. This position will require nights, weekends, and holiday work.

Salary Range: $7.25 per hour. Conference Assistants are provided with free housing on campus during the summer conference season.

Minimum Education Required: You must be a Georgia Southern student enrolled in six or more credit hours. If you choose to take summer classes, we prefer they be online courses so that you are available to work during the day/SOAR sessions.

Minimum Experience Required: None

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; successful completion of the background investigation process.

Preferred Education: Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in hospitality/tourism/recreation or other similar field.

Preferred Experience: Previous experience in customer service.

Conference Manager Job Description – Summer 2016

The Conference Manager position is an eighteen-week position employed by Georgia Southern University Conference Services. Employment will begin on April 11, 2016 to include 2-3 hours per week to begin planning for the summer term. This work will be paid hourly at a rate of $7.25 per hour. The conference season will begin on Monday, May 16, 2016 and end on Friday, August 5, 2016, or until the last camp/conference checks out. During the conference season, the conference manager will work 30 hours per week and paid by stipend. Conference managers live on campus, complete on-call duty rotation, and work up to 30 hours per week as part of a summer staff team. Conference managers are the primary coordinators of camp preparations, management of student staff, and implementation of preparatory work for dining, parking, housing, recreation, and more. This position will require nights, weekends, and holiday work.

Salary Range: $7.25 per hour for work April 11th – May 15th; $3600 stipend for the summer term. Conference Managers are provided with free housing on campus during the summer conference season.

Minimum Experience Required: One or more years of experience, preferably in a hospitality environment.
