On-Campus Testing Options

Mako Medical Test Collection Sites (Students, Faculty, and Staff)

  • Who is eligible?
    • Georgia Southern University students, faculty and staff with or without COVID-19 symptoms.
  • Where do I go?  
  • What type of test is it? 
    • We offer appropriate testing for an individual’s situation, whether symptomatic or asymptomatic.
  • How much does it cost? 
    • Testing is free.
  • Do I need an appointment? 
    • No appointments are scheduled. While walk-ups will be accepted, pre-registration is strongly encouraged. You can pre-register via the testing link on your MyGeorgiaSouthern portal. Once you have pre-registered, you can go to the testing site at your convenience; the system will not generate an appointment for you or send you a reminder email.
  • What should I bring? 
    • Bring your Eagle ID card and cell phone.

Student Health Centers on the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses (Students only)

  • Who is eligible for testing?
    • Enrolled students with COVID-19 symptoms who had their COVID-19 symptoms evaluated by a student campus health services medical provider.
    • Students must have paid the semester health fee to be evaluated by a Health Services medical provider.
  • What type of test is it?
    • Testing is provided using a rapid, in-house point of care test with results typically available that same day.  
  • How much does it cost?
    • While there is no charge for the COVID-19 test, standard charges will apply for the medical provider evaluation and any other testing.  
  • How do I make an appointment?
    • Appointments are required. Students with symptoms who desire an evaluation by a medical provider can schedule an appointment via their online student health portal.  
  • What should I bring?
    • Bring your Eagle ID card, insurance card, cell phone, and form of payment.

What is the university’s plan for testing?

Free COVID-19 testing is available to all Georgia Southern faculty, staff, and students on all campuses.

We strongly encourage testing for people who have symptoms of COVID-19 and unvaccinated people who have had close contact (within six feet for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone with confirmed COVID-19 should get tested. 

In accordance with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, those who are up-to-date with their vaccines and with no known exposures are not recommended to be tested regularly. However, it is recommended that individuals who are up to date with their vaccines get tested within five to seven days following known exposure to someone with suspected or confirmed COVID-19 and wear a mask in public indoor settings for 14 days after exposure or until a negative test result. 

How do I get tested?

While walk-up testing is available at Health Services and Armstrong Center test sites, it is preferred that you register for your test in advance online to streamline the testing process. Faculty, staff, and students can register for testing at these sites via the testing registration link on your MyGeorgiaSouthern portal. Additionally, students with symptoms can continue to be tested in the health centers on both the Armstrong and Statesboro campuses if they have been evaluated by a health services medical provider for those symptoms.

What do I need to bring to the test site?

If you are testing at Health Services or Armstrong Center test sites, please bring your Eagle ID or some other form of identification and your cell phone. If you are testing in the campus health center, bring your Eagle ID card, insurance card, cell phone, and form of payment for the clinic visit.

How will the test be collected?

Both the PCR and the antigen tests are nasal swab tests.

How long will I need to plan to be at the test site?

Test collection at Health Services and Armstrong Center test sites should take just a few minutes, and registering online in advance will speed up the process.

Do I have to pay for testing?

There is no cost for students, faculty, and staff for COVID-19 testing at Health Services and Armstrong Center test sites. For students who have testing done in the campus health centers, while there is no charge for the COVID-19 test, standard charges will apply for the medical provider evaluation and any other testing ordered during that visit.

Which test should I get?

The University is providing the rapid antigen test for persons who report symptoms and the PCR test for persons who do not have symptoms.

When and how will I get my results?

For persons testing at Health Services and Armstrong Center test sites, PCR test results are usually provided to you within 48 hours, while rapid antigen results are typically provided to you the same or next day. You will receive your results electronically via a notification from Mako Medical. For students who are tested at the health center on campus, results are typically available the same or next day and will be communicated to you by the health center staff.

Do I still need to report my positive test?

Yes, all faculty, staff, and students who have a positive COVID-19 test should report their positive test status using the COVID-19 health reporting form and continue to follow all current university protocols.

I am a student, so can I still get tested in the campus health center?

If you are a student, you can still get tested in the health center on the Statesboro and Armstrong campuses. Testing in the health centers will continue to be available to those students who have seen a medical provider in the health center and the medical provider ordered the test. While there is no charge for the COVID-19 test in the health centers, standard charges still apply for the evaluation by the medical provider.

Can I still get tested off campus?

While we strongly encourage our students, faculty, and staff to take advantage of our on-campus testing options, you may still choose to get tested off campus. If you do test off campus and receive a positive result, you should still report your positive test status to the university using the COVID-19 health reporting form and follow all current precautions.

If I have registered and been tested at a Georgia Southern campus Mako test site, and I want to get tested again on campus at a later date, do I have to register again?

If you want to be tested again at a campus site that you have already registered for, you do not need to register again and can just walk up for testing during its hours of operation. However, if for instance you registered for testing with Mako on one campus, but in the future you want to get tested at the other campus, you can register for the test at the other campus. Once you register for a specific campus site, your account remains in the system for that site, and from then on you do need to register again.

If I have misplaced or damaged my vaccination card, can I recieve a replacement?

Yes, you can receive a replacement vaccination card from GS Health Services.

STATESBORO CAMPUS: Please call or email Health Services on the Statesboro campus one day prior to your arrival to allow sufficient time for staff to review your records and create your card. Their phone number is 912.478.5641; their email address is health@georgiasouthern.edu. Cards may be picked up at the Health Services Office, Monday – Thursday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm, Friday, 9:00 am – 5:00 pm.

ARMSTRONG CAMPUS: Cards are available for pickup only on Wednesdays during vaccine clinics in the College of Health Professionals Academic Building. Please call or email Health Services on the Statesboro campus at least two days prior to your arrival to allow sufficient time for staff to create your card and have it delivered to the Armstrong campus. Their phone number is 912.478.5641; their email address is health@georgiasouthern.edu.

MAIL INSTRUCTIONS: If you would like to have the card mailed to you, please use your Georgia Southern email account to send an email request to health@georgiasouthern.edu. Include your name, Eagle ID, and mailing address.

Duplicate cards may be requested from your County Public Health Department.
