Chad Asplund M.D.
Dr. Chad Asplund is an experienced veteran and board certified Family and Sports Medicine physician with a passion for both college athletics and student health. Prior to his position at Georgia Southern University, Dr. Asplund resided as the Medical Director of Student Health at Georgia Regents University, in Augusta, GA. He has a vast array of experience in sports medicine as he provided care to athletes at all levels – professional, Olympic, NCAA division I, II and III, high school and recreational athletes. Dr. Asplund’s research interests are exercise-related sudden death and concussion. He has published and presented on these topics nationally as well as internationally. He received his Bachelor of Science in the United States Coast Guard Academy, in New London, CT, and his Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh, in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Asplund completed his Family Medicine Residency at Dewitt Army Community Hospital, in Fort Belvoir, VA, and his Sports Medicine Fellowship at Ohio State University, in Columbus, OH. In addition, he received a Masters of Public Health at the University of Florida, in Gainesville, FL. Dr. Asplund is active nationally in sports medicine with the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine and the American College of Sports Medicine. He joined the Health Services staff in 2015.
