Armstrong Campus – Break Closings & Housing

General Closing Information

Halls close on Sunday, May 7th, at 12:00 Noon.

You must depart for summer within 24 hours after your last final exam or class of the Spring 2023 semester or by Sunday, May 7th at 12:00 PM — whichever comes first.

  • If you are participating in or assisting with Commencement, you may stay in the Residence Halls until 10:00 AM the day following your ceremony, pending approval from the Main Housing Office.  You must contact our office by email at housing@georgiasouthern.edu.  You will receive an email once our office has verified your participation in Commencement.
  • If you want to remain on campus during the Break Period – you must complete a Break Stay Application. More information can be found here.

Preparing to Check Out: All students must check out of their individual space. The following items must be completed before your departure. Be sure to remove all your personal belongings from the space.

  • Lock your windows, insert your window stick if one is provided (first-floor residents).
  • Lower and close window blinds.
  • Remove all trash and perishable food items and take to the appropriate dumpster. If trash or perishable food is found in your room, you will be charged for its removal.
  • Remove all items and clean the refrigerator and freezer.
  • Empty and clean the green recycling bin (if applicable)
  • Set the room temperature to AUTO, COOL, and set at 75 degrees. It is important to have the unit set to AUTO to allow for proper air circulation.
  • Check every drawer/closet and take home all belongings
  • Turn off all lights.
  • Close and lock the bedroom and main doors.
  • Submit a Work Order
  • Check out with an RA or complete an express envelope.

During the Check Out Process: You will have the opportunity to inspect your room with an RA or through an express checkout. During that time, University Housing staff members will inspect the status of your space and will note any damage or cleaning issues. A University Housing staff member will collect your key at check out. If you are unable to turn in your key at check out, you may be charged with a lock change.

  • Even if damages and cleaning concerns are documented at check-out, all rooms are assessed through a final walkthrough once the building is vacant.
  • The Resident Director of your building will assign charges as a result of the room condition and final walkthrough. They will be taking into consideration any damages or concerns that were submitted at the beginning of the academic year. The charges will appear on your Wings account no later than May 12th.
  • If you would like to appeal any charges placed on your account, email residentialeducation@georgiasouthern.edu. In that email, please include your name, Eagle ID, room assignment, the item(s) you are appealing, and your reason for appeal. You are able to appeal any charges until July 1st.

You must sign up using the link below. Cost – $0
  • Option 2 – Break Stay in Same Room – If you are in the same bedroom assignment in Compass Point for Spring 2023 and Summer, you may occupy your room for the entire break period (May 7th – May 14th) and use your room. Staff will be in to clean the common areas (bathrooms, kitchen, etc.), so you are advised to keep as many belongings in your bedroom as possible. Cost – $100
  • Option 3 – Break Stay in Different Room – If you are in a different room on campus for Spring 2023 and Summer, you will stay in your current Spring room assignment until Sunday, May 14th.
