Graduate Assistant Positions

Summary

University Housing employs one of the largest graduate staff teams across the University. University Housing hires up to 17 graduate assistants each academic year. Three types of assistantships are available within University Housing – Graduate Assistant for Residence Education (Central Grads), Graduate Assistant for Housing Operations, and Graduate Resident Director (GRD). Georgia Southern’s College of Graduate Studies (COGS) requires candidates to be accepted into a Master’s Program at Georgia Southern before being offered an assistantship. Recruitment & Selection Process:

• For new staff members – Incoming (new to the department) graduate staff members are recruited through several professional and University-wide platforms. University Housing participates in the Oshkosh Placement Exchange (OPE), the Graduate Assistant Placement Program, and the College of Graduate Studies assistantship portal. Qualified candidates are offered an interview by current professional and graduate students. Per Georgia Southern College of Graduate Studies’ guidelines, University Housing cannot offer employment to any candidate until a candidate has been accepted into a graduate program at Georgia Southern. University Housing has a preference to hire graduate staff from the Master’s of Education in Higher Education Administration due to the practical learning experience the positions offer.

Recruitment Process (Returning Staff):

Current graduate staff members who would like to return to one of the graduate assistantships available in University Housing will be notified of the interview process via their staff email address.
