Resident Advisor Selection Process

TIMELINE | 2024-2025 ACADEMIC YEAR RESIDENT ADVISOR SELECTION:

We are excited for our Resident Advisor recruitment process for the 2024-2025 academic year for both the Savannah and Statesboro campuses. Candidates for the Resident Advisor positions on the Savannah and Statesboro campuses will follow this timeline:

  • March 4, 2024 – RA Application Opens and Information Sessions start
  • March 15, 2024 – RA Applications Due for Fall 2024 start date
  • March 20, 2024 – RA Interviews and Supplemental Group Process Start (Virtual Process)
  • April 8, 2024  – RA Offer Letters begin going out
  • April 12, 2024 – RA Welcome Day

  • March 5, 2024Zoom 5:00-6:00 PM
  • March 6, 2024 – Zoom 7:00-8:00 PM
  • March 7, 2024 – Zoom 6:00-7:00 PM
  • March 12, 2024 – Zoom 5:00-6:00 PM

  • March 14, 2024 – Zoom 8:00-9:00 PM

APPLICATION INFORMATION

For a candidate to successfully complete their application, they must complete the three following tasks:

1. Complete a Human Resources Application. Go to https://jobs.georgiasouthern.edu/sec/jobs/ and search for the RA position for which you are applying. Please note that the positions will have similar names, so ensure that you are applying for the correct term and campus.

2. Attend One Mandatory RA Information Session. Dates for these information sessions can be found in the timelines listed above and on flyers posted around the campus. There is no need to sign up for an information session ahead of time. However, you must attend one session in order to receive the supplemental RA application and move forward in the process.

3. Complete the Supplemental Resident Advisor application. You will receive this application from the Student Staff Recruitment Committee 24-48 hours after you attend one of the Information Sessions discussed above. Please ensure that you sign in at the Information Session you attend in order to receive the supplemental application. Follow the directions listed on the supplemental application for completing and returning it.

QUALIFICATION

A candidate must meet the following qualifications in order to be considered for the RA position in Spring 2024 or for the 2024-2025 academic year. If you have concerns about your fit within these qualifications or have a special circumstance that you would like to discuss, please contact us.

  • Candidates must be enrolled as a full-time matriculated student at Georgia Southern University & eligible to live on. This is 9 credit hours for undergraduate students and 6 credit hours for graduate students. RAs may not take more than 17 credit hours in their first semester in the role.
  • Must have and maintain a 2.5 overall GPA and must maintain a semester/term GPA of 2.25. Must remain in good academic standing.
  • Must have lived on-campus at Georgia Southern or another college/university for a minimum of two semesters prior to the start of employment.
  • All candidates must complete/pass a Georgia System required background check and student conduct review. Must maintain good student conduct record.
  • Successful candidates cannot hold other employment on-campus and may not partake in any new member sorority or fraternity recruitment process during their first semester of employment. Any other roles or involvement that may affect an RAs ability to attend trainings or fulfill the duties of an RA may not be allowed and should be discussed first, such as student teaching, clinicals, internships, and participation in sorority and fraternity events. Any off-campus jobs must be approved prior to starting and will not be allowed for RAs in their first semester of the role. Other campus organizations may be prohibited or restricted, such as SGA Executive Board membership.
  • All candidates must be able to commit to one academic year (fall and spring), unless hired for a mid-year or summer RA position.
  • All candidates must be able to return to campus early (mid-July and immediately after New Year’s) for additional staff training. All candidates must be able to remain after halls have closed for winter and summer breaks to assist with closing procedures for up to four days after. There are also some dates when all RAs are required to assist with special campus events on weekends and holidays.
  • All candidates must be able to work between 20-25 hours a week for most weeks and up to 29 hours during training and special weeks.
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment and sensitive to students’ growth and development in the university and residence hall setting
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

Interested candidates are encouraged to review a copy of the 2023-2024 Employment Agreement, which details the full expectations of the Resident Advisor position. All those selected for the RA role will be provided with the most relevant version of this agreement closer to their start date.

RESIDENTIAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES

In addition to our traditional residence hall communities, we also offer candidates the option of being involved in a Residential Learning Community.  These Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) and Theme Communities (TCs) are a way for residents to live with others who have similar majors, interests, or identities.  For more information regarding each community and the requirements for applicants to be considered for each community, please refer to the website below:
