University Housing

Resident Advisor

The Resident Advisor (R.A.) will educate community members regarding their rights and responsibilities as members of a floor, hall, and campus community. Resident Advisors contribute to the establishment of community expectations for acceptable behavior within the community including quiet hours, cleanliness, respect, and involvement. They also assist community members with resolving conflicts appropriately. They must facilitate regular floor/community meetings to provide information and revisit community norms and standards. Resident Advisors will participate in regular duty rotation during the week, weekend, and holidays. The R.A. must maintain a regular presence on the floor and in the community and participate regularly in building programs, events, and Hall Council, and occasionally participate in campus programs, campus-wide events – Open House, Accepted Students Day, Homecoming, Hall Olympics, Spring Weekend, and Week of Welcome. 

Proposed Salary

  • RAs receive a salary compensation package. This may be awarded in the way of a credit towards the housing cost, or monetary bi-weekly payment agreed upon at the time of accepting the position (pending approval through University Payroll). 
  • Academic year (July/Aug to May) – RA salary compensation is $6,800 per year ($3,400 per semester).

Guest Services Assistant

  • Provides in-person customer service
  • Preps buildings for arriving groups and assist with the check-in and check-out process
  • Serves in an on-call rotation to serve as a contact to guests
  • Assists with showcasing housing spaces during SOAR sessions
  • Attends and participates in all required staff meetings and training sessions
  • Be knowledgeable of University Housing operating procedures and philosophies; emergency procedures; confrontation methods, and crisis intervention techniques
  • Maintains accurate records of all activities and transactions which occur during scheduled desk and on-call shifts
  • Reports all violations of university rules, regulations, and policies to a member of the Guest Services Leadership Team, even after the problem has been resolved
  • Assists in emergencies such as fire alarm evacuation, floods, hurricanes, power outages, or other crises. In case of a crisis, all staff members are immediately on-call. GSAs are considered essential personnel during University Housing Guest Services crises

Shift Specifics:

  • 15 – 20 hours per week

  • May be required to work nights, weekends, and holiday hours

Desk Assistant

Responsibilities:

  • Provide front-line staffing support to residence hall front desk and customer service operations within University Housing
  • Assist in the opening and closing of the clubhouse or main office daily
  • Maintain and track office and hall inventory and supplies
  • Assisting with lockouts and conducting weekly key audits
  • Issue and track residence hall equipment at the Windward Commons front desk
  • Maintain desk cleanliness
  • Provide tours to prospective students and participate in University Housing’s portions of recruitment events such as Eagle Preview
  • Support students by providing customer service response for issues that may arise in the hall, including notification of additional staff as situations arise
  • Administrative Duties (printing/copying/scanning/organizing documents)
  • Assisting with University Housing’s Operation Move-In (OMI) at the beginning of Fall and Spring semesters

Student Photographer

Responsibilities

  • Attends and photographs campus events as requested, arriving on time, and staying until all needed images are captured
  • Edits photos for print, social media, etc.
  • Uploads photos to the appropriate storage drive in a timely manner (typically within 24-48 hours of the event)

Traffic Control – Parking Services Monitor

The Student Assistant works at Parking-Traffic Control on the Armstrong Campus as a Parking Services Monitor.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform related duties as assigned to support the mission of the University
  • Patrol designated area of campus on foot or in vehicle to enforce parking regulations; answer calls and complaints involving parking violations
  • Request permission to boot or tow vehicles that are illegally parked 
  • Write and issue parking citations
  • Instruct the public in proper use of parking facilities
  • Observe parking and traffic conditions, taking appropriate actions to assist when needed
  • Use equipment unique to position such as two-way radio and hand-held computer to issue citations
  • Upload and download citation information from hand-held device and parking system
