Psychiatry
If you are experiencing a mental health emergency, please call 911 or 9-911 from a campus phone.
The Health Services Psychiatry Clinic provides Georgia Southern students with general psychiatric services, including psychiatric evaluations and medication management for:
| Depression | Disorganized behavior |
| Anxiety disorders | Trauma |
| Mood and emotional disturbances |
Psychiatry visits are offered at no additional cost to enrolled students who have paid the semester health fee. If lab services are required, however, customary lab fees may apply.
If it is determined that ongoing care does not need to be provided by a psychiatrist, patients may be referred back to their Health Services primary care provider or the Counseling Center for the continuation of care.
Scheduling an Appointment
New Patients
Students wishing to schedule an appointment with a Psychiatrist must first complete a screening evaluation with the Counseling Center or a healthcare provider. Your Health Services provider, off-campus medical provider, or the Counseling Center will assess your need for psychiatric services and refer you to our Psychiatrist for further support and management of your mental health needs.
Once a referral has been received and reviewed, a member of our staff will contact you to schedule an appointment and discuss next steps.
Once referred, all patients seeking to establish care with our psychiatry clinic must be first evaluated by our psychiatrist in-person at our Statesboro clinic.
Referrals
The Counseling Center at Georgia Southern University and your Health Services provider can automatically submit a referral to the Psychiatry Clinic. Off-campus providers may fax referrals to Health Services at (912) 478-5206.
Established Patients
Patients may call (912) 478-0551 to speak with a member of our psychiatry clinic staff, schedule or cancel an appointment, or request medication refills.
National Alliance on Mental Illness: #IAmNAMIPride
Health Services joins with the National Alliance on Mental Illness in recognizing that LGBTQ+ people are impacted unequally by mental illness and a lack of mental health resources. After Hours Resources
The Counseling Center is available 24/7 to support our students. Call 912-478-5541 (Statesboro) or 912-344-2529 (Armstrong/Liberty) to speak with a Counselor.
The University System of Georgia has partnered with Christie Campus Health to offer free individual counseling services to our students. They can be contacted at (833) 910-3369.

988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline
The 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline also provides 24/7 confidential support to anyone in mental-health related distress. Dial “988” from anywhere in the United States to be connected to crisis intervention. This resource is also accessible via text message.
H.E.R.O. Folder
The Georgia Southern H.E.R.O. Folder is designed to assist you in supporting students, faculty, and staff on our campuses. The information in this folder provides tools for you to recognize individuals in distress and connect them with appropriate resources. You are vitally important in identifying and helping individuals in distress or those at risk for suicide.
Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL)
For immediate access to crisis services, call (800) 715-4225. The Georgia Crisis and Access Line (GCAL) is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year to help you or someone you care for in a crisis. GCAL professionals will:
- Provide crisis intervention services over the phone
- Dispatch mobile crisis teams, if needed
- Assist individuals in finding an open crisis or detox bed across the State
- Link individuals with urgent appointment services
Georgia Southern University Counseling Center
Health Services collaborates with the Georgia Southern Counseling Center located on Forest Drive to assist in the care of our students. The Counseling Center provides individual and group counseling services by well-trained and experienced staff that includes psychologists and licensed counselors.
