Clinical Providers
Health Services Physicians are well-trained, board certified MD’s with significant experience in both private practice and college health. Health Services Physicians Assistants have received extensive clinical training prior to obtaining a state license to practice, and similar to physician training but shorter in duration. Health Services Nurse Practitioners (NP) are registered nurses with advanced education and training in primary care as well as certain specialty areas, including family practice and obstetrics/gynecology. Physician Assistants and Nurse Practitioners work independently, as well as collaboratively with Physicians and other health care providers. When students enter Georgia Southern University, they are automatically assigned to a Medical Team in the General Medical Clinic. Georgia Southern University Health Services has three Medical Teams composed of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses and certified medical assistants. They work as a team enabling each patient to return to the same providers and team for continuity of care. The teams are designated by color and consist of the Medical Team Blue, Medical Team Green, and Medical Team Gold. To identify your assigned Medical Team you must access Eagle OSH by logging in to My.Georgiasouthern.edu. Click on Eagle OSH (Health Center Online) under Services. Once you have accessed Eagle Online Student Health your team will be displayed on the appointment tab screen.

Nursing
The Nursing Staff provides direct patient care and services in support of the Health Services provider staff. The Nursing Staff is composed of Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and Certified Medical Assistants (CMA). LPN’s must complete an accredited training program and are required to pass a state licensure exam. They provide nursing care that requires significant medical and technical knowledge and skill but not the in-depth professional training as a Registered Nurse. CMA’s provide patient care services that may include lab work and other routine testing procedures, medical information processing, and clinical duties requiring less formal training and/or knowledge than an LPN. CMA’s must complete an accredited training program and are required to pass a national certification exam.

All physical therapists are required to receive a graduate degree – either a master’s degree or a clinical doctorate — from an accredited physical therapist program before taking the national licensure examination that allows them to practice. State licensure is required in each state in which a physical therapist practices. They are trusted health care professionals with extensive clinical experience who examine, diagnose, and then prevent or treat conditions that limit the body’s ability to move and function in daily life.
