2019-2020 Resident Advisor Selection Process


Our Resident Advisor process begins in October and concludes in February.  Please see our timeline for 2019-2020 below:

  • October 18, 2018 – Auxiliary Services Job Fair
  • October 22, 2018 – RA Application Opens
  • October 22 – November 30, 2018 – RA Information Sessions (see listing below)
  • January 15, 2019 – RA Application Closes
  • January 25, 2019 – RA Candidate is notified of status and sent details for an interview or removed from the process
  • February 1, 2019 – RA Candidate Interview Day
  • February 25, 2019 – RA Candidates receive notification of either hired, alternate or not hired status for 2019-2020 academic year


In order for a candidate to successfully have a completed application, they must complete the three following tasks:

1. Attend one RA Information session.  All information sessions will take place at 7:00 PM in the Room 1005 of the IT Building on the following dates:

  • Monday, October 22nd
  • Thursday, October 25th
  • Monday, October 29th
  • Tuesday, October 30th
  • Sunday, November 4th
  • Tuesday, November 13th
  • Wednesday, November 14th
  • Tuesday, November 27th
  • Wednesday, November 28th
  • Friday, November 30th

2. Complete the Human Resources Application

3. Complete the Supplemental Resident Advisor Application

After candidates have completed the application process, the Residence Education staff will review all candidate materials in order to select our best candidates to move onto our interview process. Additionally, a candidate must meet the following qualifications in order to be eligible for hire for the 2019-2020 academic year.

  • Registered as a full-time student (12 hours undergraduate; 6 hours graduate) at Georgia Southern University for Fall 2019
  • Have lived on campus at least two semesters by the start of employment at Georgia Southern University or a prior institution, been a Resident Advisor at another institution, or have had significant leadership experience/role at Georgia Southern University or a prior institution
  • A 2.5 cumulative grade point average (GPA) at the time of hire
  • A clear student conduct record before and throughout hire
  • Ability to work in a diverse environment and sensitive to students’ growth and development in the university and residence hall setting
  • Demonstrated leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Successful completion of the individual and group interview process


In addition to our traditional residence hall communities, we also offer candidates the option of being involved in a Residential Learning Community.  These Living-Learning Communities (LLCs) and Theme Communities (TCs) are a way for residents to live with others who have similar majors, interests, or identities.  For more information regarding each community and requirements for applicants to be considered for each community, please refer to the website below:


We encourage all applicants to utilize the resources of the the Office of Career and Professional Development. Applicants will be best prepared by reviewing the interviewing tips and sample questions on the website, scheduling a practice interview, and requesting an resume critique from the office. Interested candidates are encouraged to review a copy of the Employment Agreement which details full expectations of the Resident Advisor position.  The copy below is the current Resident Advisor agreement.  The most up to date version will be provided to new Resident Advisor candidates once they have been extended offers.
